A very quick research post. Although I knew that a camera measures around mid-grey I had never bothered to experiment as suggested in the EYV manual to show just how white and black when taken as a whole frame are treated the same. I took four photos ranging from white, light grey, dark grey and black all on auto.
The results below are interesting though obviously expected. There is some slight variation in tone due to the materials selected with the black image being of a jacket taken hanging in a closet the material shows some contrast that would not have been there had I selected something flat. Shadows have also played a part and obviously these were taken of different materials with different reflective properties. Even so the histogram is pretty consistent in the middle though again the black image is showing slightly darker.
Overall a useful exercise that was very quick to execute and provided a useful lesson.
